Reviews
Anyone who knows anything about the Talmud knows how oxymoronic the term "Judeo-Christian" is. Many, Christians and heathens alike, have doubtless heard the more marginalized luminaries within Christian circles asserting that "Jesus was not a Jew."
When we see that towering figures within the ranks of the early Christians like Chrysostom and Luther (among many others) were in fact quite "Jew-pilled" and would be anathematized in most modern churches today, we see a compelling contrast to the perception of Christianity as just another vehicle of Zionist propaganda that many regard it as today.
"On the Jews and Their Lies" has been on offer in paperback for some time. Both as standalone volumes and at times included in more contemporary books from Christian thinkers like Andrew Carrington Hitchcock and Eli James. I own two different editions, and one in particular was rather excellently done. But C&B is the first publisher I'm aware of who really takes a scholarly approach to these, and of even more interest to bibliophiles like myself, the first to print a hardcover edition (that I'm aware of at least.)
In regard to Chrysostom's "Homilies..." I've never seen it in print anywhere before. So it's quite possible that C&B is the first to publish a high quality, contemporary edition at all in any format. Going the extra mile to make it available in hardcover as well is another feather in their cap.
The formatting is easy on the eyes, and the content engaging in a host of ways, but as a cherry on top the cover designs look gorgeous and already catching the eyes of my visitors before I even say anything about them any time I share my book collection with friends and family.
As I have moved away from Dispensationalism and Christian Zionism, these volumes have become essential historical anchors for me. They reinforce a "responsible" theology by stripping away modern ideological lenses and returning to a worldview where Jesus Christ is the sole centerpiece of human history. Christ over Ideology
Both Luther and Chrysostom write from a time before the modern invention of Christian Zionism. Their focus is strictly theological: they argue that God’s promises are found in Christ alone, not in an ethnic group or a specific piece of land. For those who recognize that the Church is the "spiritual Israel," these books provide a necessary historical perspective on the fulfillment of the Old Covenant in the New.
Guarding the Faith
These works confirm my conviction that faith is not a political alliance but a living relationship with the Savior. Chrysostom’s warnings against "mingling" Christian faith with Old Testament rituals reinforced my judgment that grace is a treasure to be guarded. This aligns with my rejection of "once saved always saved"; faith must be nourished by the Word, not tied to a geopolitical ideology. Historical Reality
While the language used by these authors is undeniably harsh—a fact modern Lutheran bodies like the WELS (the one I am currently visiting now from being an Independent Fundamental Baptist) acknowledge with caution—I value these editions for their raw honesty. They serve as an antidote to the "capture" of Christianity by modern narratives. They remind us that for the historic Church, the "Holy Land" is found wherever the Gospel is preached.
Conclusion
I highly recommend these books to anyone seeking to understand the "Theology of the Cross." They have deepened my understanding of a true Christianity that remains firmly rooted in the person of Jesus Christ rather than 20th-century political movements.
It has been extremely hard finding Martin Luthers book “On the Jews and their lies”. I have seem several online copies but finding one in print of good quality and translation was nearly impossible until now. As a teacher of history finding the truth takes a lot of work. One needs to really dig to find why history has played out the way it has. The National Socialist movement in Germany and the causes of World War Two are a great example. Why were the Jews singled out? Reading Martin Luthers book gives one a historical background on why the Jews have been dispised for so long. Highly recommended. Current events require this books reading.
Already had “”On the jews and their lies which is great and I needed the hard cover for my collection… the other book is also fantastic… Clemens and Blair isn’t the best publisher of our time… hands down
Very happy with the set. Well made. Quality hardcover binding. I can't wait to dive in.
