Widely regarded as the second most-important book to come out of National Socialist Germany (after Mein Kampf), Rosenberg’s The Myth of the 20th Century stands as a monumental work of social and political philosophy. Originally published in 1930 and then revised in 1937, this book lays out a comprehensive vision of the emerging racially-oriented German state. The “myth” is the Myth of the Blood: the idea that race or genetics is the proper founding principle of the modern state, and that the purpose of the state is to serve and protect its majority race.
Rosenberg’s penetrating analysis covers a vast range of scholarly topics: Greek, Nordic, and German mythology; ancient literature; Western and Eastern theology; the unique qualities of Judaism; philosophy of science; metaphysics; art and aesthetics; feminism; capitalism; Marxism—and much more. More than any other single work, Myth of the 20th Century presents the ideological foundations of the new Germany, and offers a comprehensive worldview to serve as a guiding image.
As with Mein Kampf and other important works of that era, this book has never received proper treatment in an English translation, until now. The new Dalton edition presents a modernized and reworked translation that reads beautifully in contemporary English. The long text has been broken up by section headings drawn from the German original. Helpful footnotes and in-text citations add much to the clarity of the work. Finally, this edition includes a useful bibliography and detailed index. The Dalton edition will become the standard English version for years to come.

Reviews
Unlike Mein Kampf (we are talking about Mr. Dalton's translation of course) which is as straight as a political thought can be, this work integrates and interprets history, religion, philosophy and finally some political opinions of Mr. Rosenberg. In the first part, titled Book I, Mr. Rosenberg shows off his boundless knowledge of ancient history of Persia, India, Greece and Rome. His presentation of history slowly progresses to his open criticism of Roman Catholic Church with Meister Eckhart as his focal point. Book II is a challenging read as pointed out by Mr. Dalton himself in his incredible foreword. To quote him “Mr. Rosenberg is no philosopher” and with Arthur Schopenhauer as the central figure, this part of the book can be disheartening for some, if not many. The last part, Book III, is what most would probably expect from and associate with the author, his political opinions and even some predictions. The concept of Blood and Honor that extends through entire work is mesmerizing. The thought that blood and honor could’ve been supreme values over things and money seems unreal from our modern perspective. Overall, deep reading is required and, in my opinion, finishing the book feels extremely rewarding.
This was an excellent book. I learned many things about Ancient History from this book, from Ancient Egypt to Ancient India and Persia, from Ancient Greece to The Roman Empire, brief discussions and theories of Atlantis. Alfred Rosenberg talks of many historical figures such as Plato, Aristotle, Socrates, Kant, Goethe, Meister Eckart, and many more. He analyzes their writings and statements, discusses their view points and idealogues, inspiring critical thinking and inquiry. He speaks of the significance in the connection between art and architecture and the corresponding peoples responsible for creating it. He goes very in-depth into the history of various religions, and provides an insight and range of knowledge I that I never expected to learn. In his discussions of spirit and soul is where this book, in my opinion, really pushes the aspect of critical thinking the most, and also critical understanding. This book contains a vast wealth of knowledge and perspective that is much needed in the modern day. I also want to add that Thomas Dalton does an excellent job editing this book. It is very well organized, and he provides sources, context, information, and\or perspectives in his footnotes as well, which has proven very useful. It is definitely a book I would recommend, and will be a book I myself will likely continue to re-read every so often throughout my life.
Another excellent purchase. Strongly recommend.
A readable translation of the philosophy behind German National Socialism
Familiarity with the mythologies and histories of major civilizations of the world highly recommended before reading
Has been a tougher read than MKV1&2, Hitlerism, Hitler Avatara, International Jew. Looking forward to continuing but it's less coherent for me, at least so far (page 92).
